To All Our Tustin Flea Market Friends & Patrons

Yes it has been a number of months, three to be exact, that we have  filled space number 46 at the Tustin Flea Market and to all of our loyal customers and friends we too have missed you! In fact I was planning on a joyous return today, October 28th, but once again fate has intervened and caused us to miss today’s event.

Scheurich of Germany, c.1960′s 9″ Mid-Century Lava Glazed Vase/Ewer by Heinz Siery Mold #271-22, $69.00 SOLD

Last week I took a funny step down on my left leg and heard a”pop” which was followed by intense pain and an inability to walk or put any of my, well let’s just say, over 200 pounds weight on it.  After a trip to the ER on Monday it turns out that I sprained my knee and have spent the better part of this last week in bed, in a medication fog and only able to get around on crutches.  The parting words from the ER nurses mouth were, “Remember, a sprain can take longer and be more painful than a break”,  and no truer words have ever been spoken.

Weller Pottery, c.1934-39 “Panella” 8″ x 7″ Wall Pocket with Nasturtiums, superb condition $195.00 SOLD

Of course this  makes it impossible for me to set up shop today in Tustin but come rain, or sleet, or dark of night, I will be healed and ready to see all of you on November 25th in Tustin or the week before, November 18th in Long Beach. We have recently acquired a number of great items and look forward to assisting you in your holiday shopping.  If you are looking for something in particular, e-mail us and we will be happy to assist in finding that special item. Best wishes to all of you and thank you for your continued interest and support of Billy Blue Eye.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that we will be at the Long Beach Antique and Collectible Market today, Sunday, October 21st.  After a seven week hiatus we look forward to showing you, our valuable customers and friends all the newest treasures  we have recently acquired.  Although under strict “rest” restrictions these past two months we were still able to uncover some terrific vases from all of your favorite potteries and from some newly discovered ones as well. Revisiting Hull Pottery – Shop Today Tustin Flea Market

Hull Pottery was founded in 1905 by Addis Emmet Hull in Crooksville, Ohio and is considered to be one of the “Ohio Four” in Classic Americana Pottery.  The other three being McCoy, Roseville and Weller.  As with all collectibles Hull Pottery has seen it’s demand rise and fall over the years and recently we are seeing a rebirth of popularity.

Hull Pottery, c. 1958-60 “Tokay & Tuscany” 8″ Basket, mold # 6, $85.00

For me Hull’s strength has always been it’s ability to capture a piece of Americana expressed through classic roots as displayed in their “Tokay and Tuscany” line which for me is an American interpretation of Classic Italian forms and design.  Look at the “Parchment and Pine” series and you see a nod to the American West with boot shaped pitchers decorated with pine cones and rolled parchment deeds.

Hull Pottery, c. 1951-54 “Parchment & Pine” 14.25″ Ewer, Mold # S-7, $170.00

Hull Pottery remained in business until 1986 and created not only sophisticated ceramic pieces but also playful utilitarian items. You can see a display of Hull’s work offered for sale today, June 24th at The Jamestown Vintage Flea Market   where 50 plus vendors set up shop at 474 El Camino Real, Tustin from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  Look for our green and white tent, we hope to see you there!

Hull Pottery, c. 1958-60 “Tokay & Tuscany” 10.5″ Moonbasket Vase, Mold #11, $150.00

Some Favorite Rumrill Vases Available Today at the Long Beach Antique Market

We all have our favorites.  From early on beginning in grade school we witnessed the concept of the chosen few in witnessing or being the “teacher’s pet”.  Certain bonuses or advantages were awarded ones that attained that role and we learned to apply that concept in many areas of our lives.

Even in collecting pottery we apply the “teacher’s pet” principle to the items in our collection we value the most by rewarding them the most visible display shelf. For me a few of my Rumrill vases have become “teacher’s pet and they proudly great visitors to my home in a most conspicuous place of honor.

Three Rumrill vases, c. 1938-42 (from left to right) 9″ Pale Blue Art Deco Vase, mold # H-8, $ 75.00; Miniature 4.25″ Vase with Partial Original Label, mold #A-5, $ 45.00; and 6″ Fan Five Finger Bud Vase from “Manhattan Group”, mold # 541, $100.00

Today at the Long Beach Antique Market we will be offering some of our very favorite Rumrill vases and yes they will be displayed in a very prominent location. The Long Beach Antique Market  is held in the Veteran’s Stadium parking lot just off Lakewood Boulevard at Conant Street and is open from 6:00 AM until 2:00 PM. (Visit the Long Beach Antique Market website for a discount entrance fee coupon.)  We are in space #A853, look for our familiar green and white tent.
