Roseville Pottery (1890-1954) is considered one of America’s finest art pottery firms and is loved by ceramic collectors worldwide. The “Donatello” pattern was designed by Harry W. Rhead and was produced for a decade. It was Roseville’s first major success. The pattern consists of a cherub playing a lute in a snapshot scene separated by trees. This 8.25″ (h) footed vase has a slightly flared rim. The vase comes from a very crisp mold and production can be pin-pointed to before 1918 as this vase is bottom marked in a manner that wasn’t used after that year. The bottom has an embossed circle that reads “Donatello R P Co” as well as an ink stamped logo “Rv“. The vase is in very good condition with minimal crazing and a few production glaze skips and drips that were frequently seen during the early years of Roseville’s existence. The vase from a certain angle looks to have a slight lean, mentioned only for accuracy as it does not in any way detract from the charm and beauty of this vase. In fact, it sets it apart from other examples!
