Anna Pap: Color & Form Converge in Contemporary Painter’s Work

"Two Row Boats" by Anna Pap Acrylic on Canvas 16" x 20" $225.00 SOLD

Born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, Anna Pap’s early childhood memories are filled with delighting her parents and family with her drawings and watercolors.  She loved to paint and draw the life she saw around her; landscapes, portraits, cityscapes all were a source of inspiration for her.   Although she longed to pursue a career as an artist, more practical voices prevailed, but just as she was to begin design school, her life took an abrupt turn and she left Hungary to live in the United States.

"White Blooms" by Anna Pap Acrylic on Canvas 12" x 12" $125.00

During these first years in America, Anna supported herself in the business world, but her hands were always busy.  She learned to be a silversmith, rug-maker, quilt designer, decorative furniture painter and just about anything else that involved using her hands and her natural eye for color and form.  Pursuing these passions, Anna enrolled in an architectural drawing and rendering class as well as attending more formal art classes where she learned about the technical aspects of painting and drawing.

"Three Orchids by Anna Pap Acrylic on Canvas 12" x 12" $100.00

Driven by the story behind the subject, Anna finds that not only does color and form play an important role in the choice of subject, but also its mood—what does it say to her?  Although she began painting on a small scale, her early patrons pushed her to explore larger paintings where she found considerable success, loving the energy and depth of field she could achieve in this more expansive format.

"French Countryside" by Anna Pap Acrylic on Canvas 24" x 30" $395.00 SOLD

Working quickly in her hilltop home’s open kitchen, Anna oftentimes mixes the paint right on the canvas to achieve an immediate effect and color tone that propels the viewer’s eye through her subject matter in a singular fashion unique to her work.   Her dramatic use of high color contrast and reflecting imagery is a montage of European travel memories, photographs and imagination that captures an essence of freshness and delight offering universal appeal.   With a significant collector base in Southern California, Anna is an emerging talent with great potential.

Every work she creates is subjected to a critique the following day, “with a fresh and analytical eye I can see if a correction is needed,” she says, “and then when I am satisfied that I have expressed myself truly and without prejudice, I move on to the next work.”  For Anna Pap the ideas for paintings never stop, it starts in her head and her heart and finds its beauty on the finished canvas.

"To My Venetian Room" By Anna Pap Acrylic on Canvas 20" x 30" $250.00

Billy Blue Eye is pleased to represent the paintings of Anna Pap.  These wonderful works of art are available by contacting us directly at billyblueeye@cox.net and  will be available for viewing this Sunday, February 21st at the Long Beach Antique & Collectible Market. We accept Visa, Master Card, and Pay Pal and all orders over $200.00 are shipped free.

The Long Beach Antique & Collectible Market is held from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM in the Veteran’s Stadium Parking lot, visit our green and white tent,  booth A-853.
