Tustin Flea Market – June 26th Features Newly Acquired Weller, McCoy, Roseville and Van Briggle Vases

Brush-McCoy Pottery, c.1920-30's 5.75" Blended Greens & Blues Onyx Vase. Mold #749, $90.00 SOLD

Every once in awhile we stumble across some truly beautiful and unique items, usually from an unexpected source which helps to make the find even more special.  A recent shopping expedition produced a number of terrific items that will be offered for the first time this Sunday, June 26th at the Tustin Flea Market in Tustin, California, a.k.a. The Jamestown Vintage Flea Market.

Van Briggle Pottery, c. Late 1980's 8.5" Southwestern Motif Vase in Ming Turquoise Glaze by Finisher CB (Clare Beyers), $195.00 SOLD

One special find were two Weller Loru vases from the late 1930’s. When we first noticed them we were struck by how similar the glaze color was to the Mulberry Glaze being employed by Van Briggle during the same time period. I am sure it was one of those “secret glazes” that mysteriously made an appearance at a rival pottery company. Ah the espionage of the mid 1930’s pottery business!

Weller Pottery, "Loru" c.1933-39 8" Footed Vase with Raised Leaves and a Flared Rim in Mulberry Glaze, $105.00 SOLD

Weller Pottery, "Loru" c.1933-39 5" Footed Planter - Vase with Flared Rim in Mulberry Glaze, $70.00 SOLD

So if you’d like to stop by and let us tempt you with our newly acquired treasures we can be found tomorrow, Sunday, June 26th at the Tustin Flea Market, 474 El Camino Real, Tustin from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, free admission.  Space #45. We hope to see you there!

Roseville Pottery, "Donatello" c. 1915, 10 inch Low Bowl, mold # 54-10, $ 225.00

Haeger Pottery designed by Sascha Brastoff, c.1948-1953 7.75" inches x 5.25 inches Trinket Box, $ 70.00 SOLD

Tustin, California Flea Market: A Monthly Neighborhood Event

Monmouth Western Stoneware Company c.1920's 18" Blue "dull finish" Floor Vase with Moroccan Decoration, $395.00 SOLD

The Tustin, California monthly Flea Market, a.k.a. The Jamestown Vintage Flea Market is a favorite of Billy Blue Eye because it really is a neighborhood event. Each month we expect to see some familiar faces and spend some time sharing tales of what has occurred in each of our lives since last months’ event. It is also through these exchanges that one can deepen one’s appreciation for whatever collectible you might be addicted to.

For a young collector this is an important experience, almost a right of passage.  Collectors will tell you that most often their own collecting was a direct result of hearing about how it enhanced the life of another.  Their interest and curiosity was born and stimulated the beginning of their own collection.

I enjoy sharing tales of my early days of pottery collecting. It was in 1982 that I was bitten by the “pottery bug”. A lovely Roseville Snowberry Urn found its way into my hands at a Milwaukee, Wisconsin antique barn and after agonizing over spending the $35.00 that it cost, it found a permanent place in my home and in my heart.

c. 1948 Roseville "Snowberry" Urn, Personal Collection

So if you’d like to stop by and share your own tale of collecting we can be found tomorrow, Sunday, May 22nd at the Tustin Flea Market, 474 El Camino Real, Tustin from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  Space #45.  We hope to see you there neighbor.
